{"id":536,"date":"2018-12-29T18:35:40","date_gmt":"2018-12-30T02:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asandersgarcia.humspace.ucla.edu\/courses\/dh150w19\/?p=536"},"modified":"2018-12-29T18:35:42","modified_gmt":"2018-12-30T02:35:42","slug":"cast-of-characters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asandersgarcia.humspace.ucla.edu\/courses\/dh150w19\/cast-of-characters\/","title":{"rendered":"Cast of Characters:"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Collaborative Compendium<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Team Assignment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Due: <\/strong>Varies by Reading<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Purpose:<\/strong> In this course you will come across many unfamiliar\ncharacters from history, and this assignment will help us keep them all\nstraight and allow us to refresh our memories quickly and easily when we forget\nwho someone is or why they\u2019re important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Task:<\/strong> You will be placed into groups of ~6 on the first day of\nclass, and each group will be assigned one of the historical readings. Place\nyour entries in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1o_e1ztBQ2S4iu50GI_tLhFDXTn1739MRxK7ycuBrtBQ\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collaborative\nGoogle Sheet.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As you\ncomplete the reading, note all of the names mentioned, who they were, and why\nthey were important. <\/li><li>Be\nsure to include everyone mentioned in the reading. The easiest way to do this\nis to list all of the named people in the Google Sheet first and then divide\nthe entries among group members. It might also help to volunteer\/elect one\nperson to double check.<\/li><li>The\ngroup will evenly divide the work amongst members. Each person from the group\nneeds to contribute at least one record to the collaborative character\ncompendium Google Sheet to receive credit for this assignment. <strong>See the grading note below.<\/strong><\/li><li>If\nit\u2019s unclear what their position was or their importance, see if you can find\nout through a little research. If you have trouble, feel free to contact Dr.\nGarcia with questions. <\/li><li>Record\nyour entries as follows:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Criteria for Success: <\/strong>Ensure that you have listed all characters from the reading and that your entries are spelled correctly and accurate. If you use sources other than our readings (and you are welcome to do so), just be sure to add the citation in the column next to \u201cContributor.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>GRADING NOTE: <\/strong>If it is clear that most of the work has fallen to one person in the group, that person will receive extra credit, and the rest of the group members\u2019 grades will be equivalent to the effort they have put in.
